History

Letchworth Roller Hockey Club was started at North Herts Leisure Centre in 1984 by two Letchworth boys, Nigel Allen & Clifton Symmons with Keith Allen as Manager. The Club is family orientated and has always been run by parents for their children. The club at one stage was the biggest in the country and had over 45 registered players entered in every league from Minors (U13), to Seniors and Ladies.

Over the years the club has had much success within the Eastern Counties, National Leagues, Premier League and Internationally. The Club has won the Eastern Counties league 29 times, the Eastern Senior Cup 6 times and won the Premier League once. Twenty-eight players from different age groups have been selected to represent England in the European and World Championships. Two players are currently playing professionally abroad in Italy & Spain.

After a period of decline in numbers, the club is growing again with players from 7 to 50(ish). Boys, girls, men and women are all welcome. The aim presently is to increase the number of younger players who will hopefully play for one of the teams in the near future. The club’s success can be measured by its growth and the players’ enthusiasm and enjoyment shown during training sessions, games and tournaments.

Many members play in regional tournaments in places such as Soham and Peterborough. This gives players, supporters and parents a chance to interact with others outside their normal scope. Although competitive on the rink, friendships are easily made.

Coaching at the club is excellent; among our coaches are ex-England International players with over 25 years playing experience. The England National Team Coach also provides coaching regularly.

Thanks to a grant from the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, equipment is available to new starters (shin pads, gloves, knee pads and stick); all they have to bring is skates.

Training is Wednesday evening from 7.00 pm to 10.30 at North Herts Leisure Centre, Letchworth. Training times vary based on age and ability.
