Letchworth Roller Hockey Club

History

Letchworth Roller Hockey Club was started at North Herts Leisure Centre in 1984 by two Letchworth boys, Nigel Allen & Clifton Symons with Keith Allen as Manager.

The Club is family orientated and has always been run by parents for their children. The club at one stage was the biggest in the country and had over 45 registered players entered in every league from Minors (U13), to Seniors.

We currently have a membership of 53 players for 2014-2015 in age categories U11, U13, U15, U17 , 2 Senior and a Senior Premier League team.

Over the years the club has had much success within the Eastern Counties, National Leagues, Premier League and Internationally. The Club has won the Eastern Counties leagues 29 times, the Eastern Senior Cup 6 times and the Premier League once. Twenty-eight players from different age groups have been selected to represent England in the European and World Championships. One of our players is currently playing professionally abroad in Spain & this season we have returning to the club James Taylor who has just retired from 11 years as a professional player in Italy.

The LRHC is growing each year and Boys, girls, men and women are all welcome. The aim presently is to increase the number of Under 11’s who will hopefully play for one of the teams in the near future. The club’s success can be measured by its growth and the players’ enthusiasm and enjoyment shown during training sessions, games and tournaments.

Many members play in regional tournaments in places such as Soham and Peterborough. This gives players, supporters and parents a chance to interact with others outside their normal scope. Although competitive on the rink, friendships are easily made.

Coaching at the club is excellent; among our coaches are ex-England International players with over 25 years playing experience. The England National Coaching Director attends our training sessions twice a month providing additional coaching throughout all age groups.

A number of players from different age groups also attend a National Training Programme held once a month in Peterborough to further develop their skills, which provides a platform for them to progress into the National squads.

We have started a Skating Academy to teach children to improve their skating skills to a level at which they can train to play Roller Hockey.

These sessions are held at the Knights Templar Sports Hall in Baldock. The session starts at 9:30 am every Saturday!
